"If you’re a working woman, you need a wife."
This weekend I spent lots of time with good friends, and was reminded today of how lucky I am to be able to do that, of how short life can be. I hope you all got to enjoy your weekends, too, and here are the best things I read this week.
What I’m reading
A common seagull, Yale Review. New Sheila Heti essay!
My Instagram, N+1 mag. One of the best things I’ve read about our modern relationship with social media.
Would a 37-year-old woman be where Pete Buttigieg is?, New York Times.
An interview with the woman who wrote the viral 1,000 word job listing for a “household manager/cook/nanny," Slate. If you saw that viral tweet this week, read this. "If you’re a working woman, you need a wife."
The 30-something life crisis, Vox.
Millennials love Zillow because they’ll never own a home, OneZero/Medium.
How to pick what to read next, Forge/Medium.
How to write 10,000 words a week, Forge/Medium. This is by Drew Magary, so it’s not your average writing advice; it is very good.
What’s to hate about Dry January? Eater.
Eating to save my mind, Longreads.
Cooking
This week I made: this turmeric coconut curry (I used ground chicken instead of pork). Soy-glazed tofu and mushrooms (I skipped the celery and subbed in some broccoli instead to make this a little more filling). White fish with citrus and charred cabbage.
